XP, Streaks, and Shields

How progress is tracked — and why the streak here will not punish you for having a life.

Everything you demonstrate earns XP — finishing a lesson, answering a graded question, solving a lab, passing a quiz. XP is the one number that measures how far you have come, and it only ever goes up.

Heronoperator

I am Heron. I show up when the subject is the patient, unglamorous work — keeping things running, coming back day after day.

Wrenlearner

Day after day is the part I dread. Every app with a streak eventually guilt-trips me into a loss I did not care about until it told me to.

Not here. A streak counts the days you show up, and it is built specifically not to punish you. Two mechanisms do that, and both are free.

A row of seven days. Five are marked active. One missed day in the middle is covered by a shield icon rather than breaking the run, so the streak continues unbroken to day seven.
A missed day does not end the streak — a shield spends itself, silently, to cover it. You do not have to notice or ask.

Shields

You earn a shield free every seven active days, up to three banked. When you miss a day, a shield is spent automatically to cover it before the streak is ever considered broken. You never buy one, and you never have to click anything.

Tip

Other platforms sell streak protection as a paid perk. Here it is given away and spent for you. That is a deliberate difference in how this place treats you.

Vacation

And if you know you will be away — a holiday, a hard week — you can put the streak on hold from your settings. Missed days in that window are excused entirely. Stepping away from a thing you are learning for fun should not feel like a failure.

You miss a day without setting a vacation. What happens to your streak?

XP and streaks are how the platform notices your effort. The last lesson is about what that effort is for — the labs, the exams, and the credential.
